Whilst VE Day (Victory in Europe) marked the end of the war in Europe in May 1945, it is sometimes forgotten that many thousands of Armed Forces personnel were still engaged in fighting in the Far East. Victory over Japan would come at a heavy price.
VJ Day marks the day, the 15th. August 1945, on which Emperor Hirohito broadcast to the World the surrender of the Japanese forces, thus ending the Second World War.
We have met at the village War Memorial on a number of occasions this last year or so to acknowledge the 80th Anniversary of significant events that marked the service and sacrifice made by millions of people both military and civilian, not least our families and the people of this village, in the search for peace.
May we meet again on Friday the 15th August at 8.00 p.m. to pay our respect to those who made the ultimate sacrifice and to give you the opportunity (if you wish) to recount your family’s contribution to the World War II.
