  1. Cllr T. Hames took the role of chair, and welcomed all to the meeting.
  2. Minutes

The minutes of the Parish Council meeting held on 26.3.25 were approved: Proposed Cllr Barker, Seconded Cllr Spurdens.

  1. Matters Arising:

Overhanging hedge at the junction of Darrington and Doncaster roads: Cllr Mayhew emailed to say that Street Scene has contacted residents and a deadline of 2nd June has been given for residents to respond. ACTION: Cllr Spurdens will report to Dt Cllr Craig on 2nd June as to whether this has been done.

Dog bins: Cllr Barker reported that a dog bin has been fitted on Rigg Lane but not in Hundhill. ACTION: Dt Cllr Craig will follow this up.

Traffic monitoring: Cllr Hames reported that he will attend the next PACT meetings to request that officers spend more time at the location.

Speed bumps – Dt Cllr Ayre has said that a site visit will be made shortly.

Cllr Craig reported that the Sharleston Smiley Sid is being booked by Darrington PC at the Field and Fair event.  This is available for us to rent. But a team needs to be assembled and trained first.

Signage for new boundary: Following a number of requests to WMDC, Cllr Barker reported that we are still awaiting costings for the work required. A WMDC representative had met her on March 28th to look at locations. ACTION: Dt Cllr Craig will follow this up.

  1. Accounts

Cllr Barker reported that the balance is £10247.47. The CIL money balance is £5718.28 which must be spent by Autumn 2026.

The village hall is looking into insurance of the defibrillator; the PC will pay.

  1. Highways

Cllr Wheatley was absent.

  1. Planning

Cllr Lagden updated the meeting on recent applications:

  • The church application for a new roof and solar panels has had to be resubmitted as an error was made on the initial application.
  • White Cat garage, a retrospective application, not yet decided.
  • Hundhill cricket club application to trim trees – this is a split decision.
  • Berrill farm – approved.
  • Mayfield Farm – application for agricultural storage building – it was agreed to object to this application as it is misleading and repeats previous application which were not approved.
  1. Correspondence

YLCA training courses and bulletins were forwarded to councillors as relevant.

PC liaison meetings.

Numerous requests to WMDC for dog bins, boundary signage costings, securing the Elm tree on Rigg lane.

Mr Roy Donaldson – VE80 memorial event notice and Residents on active service picture and research displayed on notice board and website.

Dogs Trust information displayed.

Updates from Dt Cllr Mayhew regarding the overhanging hedge.

Quick-Line Fibre broadband request forwarded to Village Hall.

  1. AOB

A request was made to WMDC to make secure the elm tree on Rigg lane, they said this is not on public land so a second request was made as it stands on the verge and WMDC has previously made good damage caused by the tree.  ACTION: Dt Cllr Craig will make a member’s enquiry

The telephone box, this needs professional attention –ACTION:  Cllr Barker will liaise with Steve Collins to look at ways forward.

Quick line fibre broadband enquiry to erect a post/pole by the village hall notice board. It was agreed to meet the village hall committee with some urgency. ACTION: Cllr Hames will contact Alison Vickers to arrange a meeting. The Clerk will reply to Quick Line.
