Following the restoration of the pump shed in 2024, the descendants of Mr William Smith requested some recognition of their family member in the village. He was very involved in village life; as the village carpenter he carved the wording on the village pump shed, he was the village grave digger, blacksmith, and also stood in for the vicar when needed. He lived in one of the cottages at the top of the village.  A commemorative plaque has been mounted on the pump shed by Cllr Spurdens in recognition of his contribution.
