- Matters Arising:
Overhanging hedge at the junction of Darrington and Doncaster roads: This has now been cut back. Residents have reported that the visibility at the junction is much improved. Thanks to Dt Cllr Mayhew for his invaluable support with this matter.
Dog bins: Cllr Barker reported that a dog bin has now been fitted at Hundhill. Thanks to Dt Cllr Craig for following this up.
Traffic monitoring: Cllr Lagden reported that work on the A1 has been extended to December. The speed van will continue monitoring. Again it was observed what a difference the presence of the van makes. Cllr Barker reported that the A639 is breaking up due to the heavy volume of traffic now using the road. ACTION: Dt Cllr Mayhew will follow this up.
Speed bumps: Dt Cllr Ayre has said that a site visit will be made but there is no date as yet.
Signage for new boundary: Following further requests to WMDC, Cllr Barker reported that we are still awaiting costings for the work required. Dt Cllr Ayres informed us that there has been a delay. A WMDC representative had met her on March 28th to look at locations. ACTION: The Clerk will forward email correspondence to Dt Cllr Mayhew.
Damaged Stile: the clerk reported the damage to the stile on Sandy Gate Lane to WMDC who replied to say that it is the responsibility of the property owner. ACTION: the Clerk will write to the land owners concerned.
Elm tree in Rigg Lane: this has been cut down. It is hoped that WMDC would cover the cost as the tree was located on the verge.
Quickfibre broadband: the village hall informed the company that they didn’t want the proposed tower to be erected.
School building: Cllr Lagden reported that following the death of the owner, the school is going up for sale shortly. The Clerk has received numerous enquiries about the school. Apparently the old toilet block is listed. It is hoped that the building itself will be retained.
Telephone Box repair: Cllr Barker and Spurden reported that there has been no progress as yet.
- Accounts
Cllr Barker reported that there has been an unexpected CIL payment of £2011.62 for a development at Rigg Lane.
The balance is £11958.92. The CIL money balance is £7729.90 part of which must be spent by Autumn 2026. The interest on the account has covered the new bank charges.
The insurance of the defibrillator is covered under the village hall insurance.
- Highways
Cllr Wheatley will contact Dt Cllr Craig regarding hire and utilisation of the Smiley Sid, and to what extent it would be beneficial to use it in the village.

- AOB
Cllr Lagden reported that Cllr Hames has followed up the ownership of the land siting the village hall. Previously the ‘Vicars room’ stood on the site, this was demolished for the current village hall which opened in 1967. The conveyance in favour of the then parish councillors was made on 18th September 1968. The village hall committee has been consulted. It was agreed that the land should be registered by the Parish council and the village hall committee will retain responsibility. Cllr Hames secured a conveyancing estimate from a local company of £820. ACTION: the Clerk will email Cllr Hames to say go ahead.
Cllr Spurdens reported that the RDA has moved to new premises on Long Lane across the road from their previous location.
Cllr Lagden reported that residents have expressed concern about the noise originating from cricket club events. Dt Cllr Mayhew said that evidence should be collected by residents and submitted to WMDC. It was agreed to monitor the situation.
The village show will be held on Saturday 6th September.
It was agreed to appoint Cllr Lagden as Deputy Chair, Proposed Cllr Spurdens, sec. Cllr Wheatley.
